There are moments that every person will face where they are given a chance to help or harm others, and those are usually the times when we feel our absolute lowest and have been crushed by the very people that we are now given an opportunity to help. This has happened to me countless times and I wish that I could say that I always got it right, but that wouldn’t be correct. Unfortunately in a heated moment when things have escalated to the point of voices raised and feelings hurt, we often want to defend and destroy more than we feel like blessing and forgiving.
It takes God’s grace to remind us that nothing is impossible and if Jesus was able to hang on a cross completely disfigured from the horrific abuse and torture that he endured by sinners, I am pretty sure that He can give us the grace we need to endure the hateful things people do knowingly or unknowingly that try to wound us.
It is only when we truly understand how great God’s love is for us that we are able to rise above the world and become a blessing to the people still in darkness. If we become part of that darkness by holding onto offenses, it will only cause us to become like the people who harmed us. It is in love and grace that we are able to forgive. Ask the Lord to search your heart and make it clean.
We all need a little more love and God is Love so let’s exalt what is good and turn away from everything else.
