“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:14, 16-21 ESV
What would the world look like if people allowed God to handle all of their vengeance against others? It would look like a praying people who see all of their enemies getting saved and no longer being their enemies. Only love can destroy evil completely, so we are expected to only show love and kindness to others even when they do us wrong or cause us much grief.
Love looks like Jesus giving up his sinless life to save every sinner. Jesus didn’t die for the blameless; it was his death that makes us blameless before God as his pure blood washes away the stain of our guilty conscience so we can stand before God and not back down in shame. Jesus paid for all of our sins from the beginning of time until our last day on the earth, so don’t be burdened by the weight of sin, but release it all to the Lord daily and allow His love to carry you to the end.
Don’t cause harm to others and you won’t be working against the Lord. Choose good and do good. Help and never hurt anyone. Don’t belittle or disrespect others. Be humble and serve the Lord with joy!
